Kathy Griffin Drops The Jokes For Dramatic "Law & Order" Role

Kathy Griffin is giving a rare dramatic performance for television. The comedienne is dropping her usual schtick of jokes and sarcasm for an upcoming role on Law & Order: SVU. She shared a bit about the pressure of it all: “With [the cast and the crew ] watching you, and the pressure is on, when you mess up a line, you don’t want to do it again,” Griffin told The News. “My mind is programmed to go for the joke. My whole life is looking for the joke, but this was no joke. I didn’t want to disappoint them.” She said she needed help running her lines and nearly mistook Mariska Hargitay’s kindness for sarcasm: “By the third day, I worked up the courage to ask Mariska if she could run lines with me. She said, ‘I want to be there for you,’” Griffin said. “At first, I thought she was kidding … she and Chris were so helpful.” In the episode, Kathy plays a gay activist who is helping them solve the murder of a woman from a lesbian community. Kathy and Mariska’s characters share a kiss – Kathy’s first same-sex kiss. “I was so nervous about getting my character right that the last thing I gave a s- about was kissing a girl,” said Griffin. “When it came to the actual kiss, I kind of don’t remember it. I’d love to sit here and say her lips are soft, but you’d have to ask Babs.” Are you an SVU fan? How do you think Kathy will do without her sarcasm? Have you read her latest book? I hear it’s good! The episode is scheduled to air March 3rd. Photos by WENN

Splat! Nick Griffin is paint-balled in east London. Is David Cameron next?

Nick Griffin, the leader of the BNP, raises a glass of mulled wine to the electorate in east London, and wishes them a belated Merry Christmas this week. The response from the electorate to Mr Griffin’s seasonal good cheer is a volley of what appears to be paint ball rounds.

Nick Griffin for Barking: Has the BNP made a mistake?

Nick Griffin’s decision to stand against Margaret Hodge in Barking at the next general election might, just might, turn out to be another example of the BNP’s legendary capacity for unforced error. True, in 2005 Barking gave the BNP its best parliamentary result ever – its candidate, Richard Barnbrook, got 16.9 per cent, and was just

Video: what the BNP’s Nick Griffin meant to say on Question Time

Very funny work by the master of video-splicing, Cassetteboy, who’s been fiddling with the BNP leader’s outpourings last night (although you may reasonably point out that Cassetteboy hasn’t made Nick Griffin sound any sillier than he actually was). “I believe that the Holocaust was an enormous party with the Nazis…”

Nick Griffin, damned by his wife

Never mind that David Aaronovitch column pointing out exactly how the BBC should hold Nick Griffin to account for his holocaust-denying, racist, homophobic views; my favourite piece of criticism on the BNP leader this week comes from no other than his wife. “I worked my a*** off trying to keep us going,” Mrs Griffin has moaned,

Forget Nick Griffin on Question Time: the BNP won’t last

Pardon me for not joining in the hysteria about Nick Griffin being on Question Time, but what is everyone worried about? Griffin is only a cry for help from a disenfranchised, despised post-working working class, a group dumped and betrayed by a Labour Party who see them as weaker players in their version of Victim

Nick Griffin is the real Nazi, not our distinguished generals

At the risk of giving BNP leader Nick Griffin the oxygen of publicity he so desperately craves, his totally obnoxious claim that our leading generals are no better than Nazi war criminals cannot be allowed to stand unchallenged. Mr Griffin asserts that two of our leading generals, Sir Mike Jackson and Sir Richard Dannatt, are war criminals

Jon Gosselin flaunts his new, MUCH younger girlfriend – take that, Kate!

Obviously, Jon Gosselin of “Jon and Kate Plus Eight” is not wasting any time, because he was photographed at an event for some fashion designer openly holding hands and hanging out with his 23 year old mistress/girlfriend. Yeah, and the divorce papers haven’t even been written yet! I don’t blame him though….Kate is a major [...]

With friends like Sam Lufti, who needs enemies?

Remember Sam Lufti? You know, Britney Spears’ former manager that turned out to be a TOTAL asshat, grinding up pills and throwing them in her food so she wouldn’t get all fired up about him losing all her money, shaving her head (again), or do something like, oh, I don’t know, getting upset that he [...]

Anthony Kiedis & Bum’s Bike Ride in Malibu

Any second now, Gwyneth Paltrow is going to break right into: “I love it when we’re cruisin’ together” and you so know Huey Lewis is also gonna jump right in! OK, minor correction… Anthony Kiedis‘ friend isn’t a bum, it’s actually Rick Rubin, record producer and co-head of Columbia Records. The two were spotted riding [...]
